Car Tech Spotlight: TFT instrument panel in the 2013 Fiat 500e

It doesn’t 'grow leaves' like in Ford hybrids, but the Fiat's display is easy to use and just looks cool.

Every time I’ve driven the Fiat 500, it evokes more reactions than most other cars. And it gets as many comments from strangers as cars that cost five times as much.

While the 500 stands out, the all-electric 500e isn’t outwardly distinctive from its gasoline-powered sibling, even though it comes with unique paint and graphics and exclusive exterior bits like front and rear fascias, a rear spoiler and 15-inch wheels designed to make it more aerodynamic.

The interior is different, though. While its shares the cheap plastic and manual seats of its internal combustion brethren, the 500e features either a bright white "Steam" or black "Nero" interior color scheme with Arancio Elettrico (Electric Orange) accents.
